Greetings from the City by the Bay!!
Yes, sports fans, this photo was taken from Meredith's (my niece) dorm room at the University of San Francisco! Wow...my view was of old buildings, dumpsters and downtown Milwaukee. Not quite as great as this!!
Arrived here yesterday at noon...had a delicious lunch with Bob and Dinie (Meredith's godparents) and they transported us to the fabulous Hotel Carlton in Nob Hill. We then proceeded to fall upon our beds and take a nap...ahhh, bliss!
Later ~ after the aforementioned naps ~ we went to see Meredith's 'room with a view' and then went to dinner at the Green Chile with Meredith and her boyfriend, Chris! So yummy...great food! Meredith and Chris then insisted that we keep our receipt and use it at the Green Chile's dessert kitchen ~ called Green Chile Pies. With the receipt you receive $1 off your dessert purchase. :) Well..they had some pretty delicious pies offered and I chose the Lemon Buttermilk variety. It was basically like a lemon bar cut into a pie-shaped wedge. Yummy...
Meredith and Chris then introduced Amy and I to the 'Pie Shake.' Basically...take a piece of pie (in this example it was pumpkin pie) and then blend it together with your favorite ice cream (horchata)...then eat and enjoy. I did not partake, but it looked pretty amazing! Amy had the Green Chile Apple pie...very yummy!
Then we crashed to sleep...waking this morning and setting out into the beautiful San Francisco day! We walked...and walked...and walked...and walked...putting in our requisite 8 hours of foot-moving time! We had lunch at Pizzeria Delphine (in the Mission) with our great friend, Christine Rottger (nee Sedlack) ~ an old friend from our La Rabida/Chicago days. So wonderful to see her and she's just about 2 weeks away from having her 2nd kiddo. So exciting!! Our great lunch was followed up by a scoop of BiRite Ice Cream...super delish!
Walking...more walking...walking...a little pre-trip preparatory shopping, picking up a few items that were forgotten and that were desired for the trip.
Dinner was then with Meredith at the Monk's Kettle (a gastropub) and we had a great time. She was a huge champ and rode her bike to/fro USF to the Mission. Going back was intense and impressive...it's all uphill, but she made it in a super-fast time...and safely too. :) So glad we were able to spend so much time with her!!
Sleepy now...tomorrow's the day to leave. I'll send more later...
xoxo
Stacy
